Safeguarding and Inclusion

Because every one of our students — from our youngest four-year-olds to our most experienced adults — deserves to feel safe, respected and looked after.

Our Commitment

At Absolute TaeKwonDo Association, we treat every student like family — and that means their safety always comes first. Whether you're four or seventy-four, brand new to the mats or years into your training, you should always feel safe, respected and included at ATKDA.

Every club, instructor and volunteer across the Association is held to the same high standard. We're working towards the Safeguarding Code in Martial Arts — Sport England's recognised safeguarding accreditation — because we believe our members deserve nothing less.

Our instructors don't just teach kicks and patterns. They're trained to recognise the signs of abuse, to communicate well, and to conduct themselves properly at all times — because being part of the ATKDA family comes with real responsibility. We regularly review how we do things and carry out risk assessments, so training stays safe for everyone, every time.

We have a dedicated Safeguarding Lead for the whole Association, and — in line with TCUK guidance — larger clubs also have their own local Club Welfare Officer, so there's always someone close by to talk to.

If something doesn't feel right, we want to know. Any concern raised with us is handled sensitively, confidentially, and taken seriously — no exceptions.

Our Policies & Governance

We don't do safeguarding on our own. ATKDA follows every safeguarding, welfare, conduct and governance policy set out by Taekwondo Council UK (TCUK), our recognised National Governing Body — covering everything from DBS checks and safer recruitment to codes of conduct and risk assessment.

Because TCUK keeps these policies up to date centrally, our standards automatically stay current across every ATKDA club — so you can always be confident you're getting the latest, most robust protections.

What To Do If You Have a Concern

1

In an emergency

If someone is in immediate danger or needs urgent medical help, call 999 straight away.

2

Tell us

Report any safeguarding concern to our Safeguarding Lead, Taryn Volante, as soon as you can. Share as much detail as possible.

3

It stays confidential

Information is only shared with those who need to know, to keep the person involved safe.

4

We refer it properly

ATKDA doesn't investigate concerns ourselves. Taryn gathers the details and liaises directly with the TCUK Safeguarding Team, who review the concern and decide on next steps.

5

Further action

Where needed, concerns may also go to the police, social services, emergency services, or the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).

ATKDA follows every safeguarding policy and procedure set by TCUK, and every club, instructor and volunteer in the Association is expected to do the same.
